BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team fell in non-conference action to the University of New England on Wednesday evening by a score of 4-1 at UNE's Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Husson (1-4) struck first on Wednesday as senior Natalie Aviolla received the ball just past midfield and took advantage of the UNE (3-2) defense being on its heels and got into prime scoring position from just outside the 18-yard box, managing to blast a ball into the left corner and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead just 1:43 into the game.
The Nor'Easters fought their way back just over 10 minutes later as a goal from Tori Keyes evened the score at one, while a tally eight minutes later from Karley Belisle gave UNE a 2-1 lead.
While the Eagles were still able to generate chances offensively, the Nor'Easters tacked on two insurance goals in the second half, as Lizzie Frattaroli and Keyes posted goals in the 56th and 74th minutes to wrap up a non-conference victory for UNE.
The Nor'Easters held a slim edge in shots over Husson, 16-15, in addition to a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-4 lead in corner kicks.
Junior Madison Weigler was in net for the Eagles and made five saves on nine UNE shots on goal.
Husson will return to the field on Tuesday when it heads north to take on the University of Maine-Presque Isle in its North Atlantic Conference opener at 3:30 p.m.
