Field hockey drops opening game of New Jersey trip to Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Husson University field hockey team opened up its two-game trip to New Jersey with a 3-0 loss to Montclair State University at Sprague Field in Montclair, New Jersey on Saturday afternoon.

Following a scoreless first quarter between Husson (2-1) and Montclair State (2-1), the Red Hawks found the scoreboard first just under 27 minutes into the game, as Emma Bianco scored her first goal of the year on a penalty stroke.

Montclair State posted a second goal onto their lead with less than two minutes to go until halftime, as Tori Sutera tallied her first goal of the young season off a pass from Sadie Eichlin to put the Red Hawks up 2-0 at the halftime break.

Montclair State added a final goal onto their tally midway through the fourth quarter courtesy of Kelly Westervelt, who also recorded her first goal of the year and the Red Hawks would complete the shutout against the Eagles, 3-0.

Husson was limited to six shots for the game by the Montclair State defense, with just one coming on target.

Junior Maddie Perkins tallied two of the six Husson shots, while sophomore Hope Bouchard recorded the lone shot on target for the Eagles.

Sophomore Maria Levesque was in goal for Husson and made 10 saves on the 14 shots that were placed on target by Montclair State.

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow when they head to Madison, New Jersey to take on Drew University at 11 a.m.
