BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team put on a show for the home crowd on Wednesday evening, as it rolled to a 9-0 win over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference action at Boucher Field.
After controlling possession for the opening 13-plus minutes of action Husson (3-4, 2-0 NAC) was rewarded with a goal, as senior Kate Harriman pounced on a failed clearance attempt from Thomas (0-2-1, 0-2-1 NAC) and curled a shot into the left corner to put the Eagles up 1-0.
Harriman doubled the Husson lead less than five minutes later as she was sent towards goal by graduate student Lindsey Russell on a nifty through-ball and Harriman took advantage of the one-on-one with the goalkeeper to net her second goal of the match.
Two juniors joined the scoring in the 28th and 36th minutes of play, as Devon St. Louis capitalized on a shot from senior Natalie Aviolla that hit the post and was there to put the rebound into the back of the net.
Addi Laslie rewarded senior Megan Buddemeyer for a great through-ball, as the Ellsworth native beat the outstretched hand of the Thomas goalkeeper to put the Eagles up 4-0.
Senior Sophia Mullins closed out the first-half scoring, as she volleyed home a corner kick from Laslie in the 37th minute to tally her first goal of the year.
Russell found the scoreboard less than a minute into the second half, as she rifled a shot from outside the 18-yard box over the head of the Terrier goalie to give Husson a commanding 6-0 edge.
Harriman put the finishing touches on a hat trick and added one more in the 48th and 57th minutes of play, with the latter of the two goals being assisted by Aviolla.
Junior Kendra Donahue capped off the scoring for the Eagles in the 59th minute, as she posted her first goal of the year to bring the game to its final score of 9-0.
Husson dominated from wire-to-wire, outshooting the Terriers 30-2 for the contest, including 16-1 in shots on goal, as well as holding an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.
Junior Madison Weigler earned the shutout for the Eagles and stopped the only shot that came her way during the game.
Husson is back in action at Boucher Field on Saturday when it hosts UMass Boston at 12 p.m. in its Blood Cancer Awareness Game.
