Noguera’s late goal lifts men’s soccer to road win over Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Daniel Noguera propelled the Husson University men's soccer team to a road win over the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon, as he rifled a shot into the top-right corner with less than 13 minutes left to send Husson to a 1-0 victory.

Husson (1-0-1) saw the better of the chances in the opening part of the first half as Noguera and sophomore Carsen Cyr saw chances saved by the Wentworth (1-1) goalkeeper within a minute of each other.

Senior Alejandro Mora also had a chance to break the scoreless-deadlock, but saw his shot hit the post, in addition to an attempt late in the half from sophomore Victor Blanco, who had his header saved by the Leopards goalie.

The Eagles saw multiple more attempts in the second half either get saved by Wentworth or go high or wide of the goal up until the 78th minute.

Senior Florian Gasser received the ball just past the midfield circle in the attacking end for Husson. Gasser drove towards goal and was tripped up by a Leopards' defender just outside the 18-yard box. The referee awarded the Eagles an advantage instead of calling the foul and Noguera pounced on the loose ball inside the penalty area and rifled it past the Wentworth goalie for the eventual game-winner.

Husson limited the Leopards to just one shot in the final 12 minutes and secured its first win under head coach Carlos Bermudez.

Sophomore Wessel De Wit picked-up the shutout in his first start as an Eagle, making five saves on the five shots he faced.

Husson outshot the Leopards 14-9, including 7-5 in shots on goal, in addition to a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they head back to Massachusetts to take on Suffolk University in a non-conference game scheduled for 3 p.m.
