BABSON PARK, Mass.— The Husson University volleyball team returned to action on Saturday defeating Bard College 3-2 in five sets for its first win of the year before falling 3-0 to Colby-Sawyer College.
Husson (1-2) trailed 1-0 following a 25-18 set-one loss on Saturday, but rebounded with a close 25-21 win in the second set to even the match 1-1.
Bard (1-2) took a 2-1 lead with a 25-22 set-three win, but Husson didn't go down without a fight winning with an impressive 25-16 set-four score to force a deciding fifth set.
In the fifth set of Saturday's showdown, the Eagles wouldn't mess around as they look a 6-2 advantage and opened up a 12-5 edge. Bard would pull within 12-7, but Husson ended the match on a 3-1 run to pick up its first win of the year.
Sophomore
Janna Preskorn finished with a career-high 20 kills, while senior
Cam Schweitzer added 11 kills.
Senior
Alexa Beal tallied five service aces and two blocks, while senior
Alyvia McIntyre posted 28 assists and fellow senior
Beatrice Tursi recorded a game-high 16 digs.
In the Eagles final game of the Babson Tournament, Colby-Sawyer (1-1) recorded a 3-0 win over Husson winning 25-20 in set one, 25-18 in set two and 25-19 in set three.
Preskorn finished with 13 kills for the Eagles, while Schweitzer added seven.
McIntyre recorded four service aces and 22 aces, while sophomore
Alana Peruti posted a game-high three blocks.
Additionally, Tursi scooped up 12 digs and Preskorn finished with 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.
Husson returns to action on Wednesday when it battles Bates College on the road at 6:30 p.m.
