BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team fell in its season-opening game to Emmanuel College on Friday evening at Boucher Field.
Emmanuel (1-0) found the scoreboard first in Friday's contest, as Annebel Balogh de Galantha headed home a corner kick from Liz McCormick just over five minutes in to give the Saints the early lead.
Husson (0-1) evened-up the game late in the opening half, as freshman Hailey Tarbox registered her first collegiate goal after she rifled a bouncing ball inside the 18-yard box past the Emmanuel goalkeeper off of a feed from junior Addi Laslie.
The Eagles looked to carry their momentum into halftime by keeping the game even, but a late goal from McCormick gave the Saints a 2-1 edge at the halftime break.
Back-to-back goals from Emmanuel to open the final minutes opened the lead up for the Saints, as Sarah Dullaghan and Loliana Morales tallied their first goals of the year to extend the lead to 4-1.
Senior Natalie Aviolla did her best to keep Husson in the contest, as she posted her first two tallies of the year, but a goal from Adriana Melaragno sandwiched in-between Aviolla's goals would keep the Eagles at an arm's-length and conclude the game in a 5-3 defeat for Husson.
Senior Hannah Kenney stood tall in goal for the Eagles, making four saves on nine shots faced.
The Saints outshot the Eagles 15-13, while both teams mustered two corner kicks in the game.
Husson is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lewiston to take on Bates College for a 5 p.m. contest.
