BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's lacrosse team battled SUNY Poly to a 16-11 at home on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference action.
SUNY Poly (6-2, 3-0 NAC) jumped out to an early advantage on Husson (3-7, 0-2 NAC) leading 3-0 after the first quarter and 5-0 with 12:40 remaining in the second quarter. However, the Eagles ended the Wildcats run with four-straight goals the first from senior
Matt Boynton.
Boynton found junior
Sean Lyne for the Eagles second goal and the trend continued on the third quarter as Lyne found junior
Nathan Vibber to pull within 5-3 of SUNY Poly. Boynton added another goal at the 9:22 mark to make the matchup 5-4.
The Wildcats managed to end the Eagles 4-0 run at the 8:31 mark, but Boynton scored his third goal of the half to pull within 6-5 and Vibber struck again from sophomore
Kolton Gillilan to even the game at 6-6.
SUNY Poly managed to outscore the Eagles 3-1 over the final 4:47, with Husson's goal coming from Gillilan with an assist from Lyne, giving SUNY Poly a 9-7 lead at the break.
Vibber pulled the Eagles within one with his third goal of the game to begin the third quarter, but SUNY Poly benefited from three-straight goals to open a 12-8 advantage.
Boynton cut into the Wildcats deficit with his fourth goal of the game at the 3:09 mark in the third quarter. Poly added another goal to end the third quarter, taking a 13-9 lead into the deciding quarter.
Freshman
Aidan Byers got on the board with an unassisted goal to opening the fourth, but the Wildcats outscored the Eagles 3-1 over the final 10:57 to come away with the 16-11 decision.
Freshman
Brad Stolt continued his strong performance at the faceoff for the Eagles winning 17-28 matchups and adding 12 ground balls.
Sophomore goaltender
Cohen Trnka stood tall in net for the Eagles recording 12 saves.
The Eagles will now face SUNY Morrisville on Sunday with faceoff set for 1 p.m.
