Utica, N.Y. - Husson University defeated SUNY Poly, 14-8, in North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
Husson (3-5, 2-0) held a 4-0 lead after the first quarter when junior
Jordyn Lengle found the back of the net at the 7:52 mark and sophomore

Sophia Gomez both scored in a matter of two minutes in the closing minutes of the frame before Gomez tallied her second of the period with 10 seconds left in the quarter.
Martinez scored her second of the game with 7:07 remaining in the first half prior to Micheala Johnson putting SUNY Poly (3-6, 1-1) on the board at the 4:07 mark of the second quarter. Junior
Maddy Benoit netted the last goal of the quarter to give Husson a comfortable 6-1 advantage heading into the intermission.
The Wildcats put a fight in the third quarter and cut the Eagles cushion down to 9-6 after Madyn LaFleur netted a goal off a nice pass from Kaitlin Kopcza with 29 seconds left in the stanza, but the Eagles responded with two straight unanswered goals from Gomez and freshman
Azabell Assaf to open the final quarter.
SUNY Poly tried fighting back once again by netting two straight unanswered goals from Aibgial Rosaschi and Johnson to make the score of the game, 11-8, with 6:38 left in the game. The Eagles shut down the hosts for the remainder of the game while sophomore
Averi Baker netted a pair and Whitten added her second tally of the day with 20 seconds left to go to account for the 14-8 final.
Husson held the lead in shots (37-18), shots on goal (30-13) and caused turnovers (15-8) in the conference victory while SUNY Poly had the advantage in ground balls (35-32) and draw controls (15-11).
Sophomore
Emma Begin made five saves and picked up five ground balls to earn the win in the net for the Eagles. SUNY Poly's netminder Jayden Brown recorded 16 saves and scooped up seven ground balls in the setback.
Gomez enjoyed another solid outing by tying her career-high in goals with five while adding three ground balls. Baker tallied two goals, an assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Martinez netted two goals on five shots with an assist, three ground balls, a caused turnover and four draw controls. Whitten chipped in with two goals, two assists and a ground ball. Benoit added a goal with a team-high six ground balls. Lengle scored once with two assists, four caused turnovers and a draw control. Assaf had a goal and a ground ball in the victory.
Johnson scored three goals with four ground balls and five draw controls to the lead the Wildcats. Rosaaschi chipped in with two goals and five ground balls. Kopcza added a goal, three assists, five ground balls and eight draw controls.
Husson will continue on their State of New York road trip with a NAC game at SUNY Canton tomorrow at 11 a.m.
