BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Husson University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with Bowdoin College on Tuesday evening in Brunswick, taking game one 3-1, while picking up a win in game two, 3-2, to run its winning-streak to 21-straight games.
GAME 1:
An RBI-single from junior Bulla McCabe in the top of the seventh inning scored fellow junior Tatyanna Biamby and proved to be the game-winner for Husson (26-4), as the Eagles picked up a 3-1 win in game one.
In what was a pitcher's duel for the first three innings of play, junior Kiara McLeod broke a scoreless-tie in the visitor-half of the fourth, as she singled back up the middle with runners on first and second and scored senior Kenzie Dore to give Husson a 1-0 edge.
Bowdoin (23-13) tied the game back up at one in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI-fielder's choice, as the game headed into the seventh inning at 1-1.
With Biamby on second and freshman Camryn King on first, McCabe laced a single into left field that was just deep enough to bring in Biamby for the eventual game-winning run. King would score the following at-bat on a wild pitch to add an insurance run for the Eagles.
Sophomore Danielle Masterson came away with her eighth win of the season in the opening game, pitching a complete-game, allowing just one run on five hits and one walk, while striking out five batters.
Senior Julia Gregoire led Husson at the plate in game one, posting two hits, while McLeod, Dore, McCabe and graduate student Katie Raymond contributed one base-knock each.
GAME 2:
Contrary to game one, it was the Polar Bears who found the scoreboard first, as an RBI-single up the middle plated the opening run of the game in the first inning for Bowdoin.
The Eagles found the equalizer in the top of the third in the form of a solo home run. Sophomore Morgan Curtis launched her first-career home run over the left field fence to tie the game back up for Husson.
Freshman Josie Cornell gave the Eagles the lead in the following at-bat for Husson, as she ripped a double into the left-center field gap and plated Gregoire and Dore to give the Eagles a 3-1 edge and the eventual game-winning runs.
Freshman Ana Lang shut down the Bowdoin offense after the first inning, surrendering just three hits and one run after the opening frame, en route to her 13th victory of the year. Lang allowed just two runs for the game on six hits and no walks, while posting 10 strikeouts.
Gregoire once again led the Eagles at the plate in Tuesday's finale, posting her second three-hit game of the season, while Cornell led the team with her two RBIs.
Husson is back in action on Thursday when it heads to Bates College for another non-conference doubleheader, with game one set to get underway at 3 p.m.
