WATERVILLE, Maine — The Husson University softball team picked up a pair of North Atlantic Conference wins on Saturday, sweeping Thomas College 7-0 and 6-1 to win its 19th-straight game.
Husson (23-4, 9-0 NAC) wasted little time getting going in the first game of Saturday's NAC doubleheader against Thomas scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by senior
Kenzie Dore.
The Eagles added to their 1-0 lead with another run in the second inning on an RBI groundout and added another run on an RBI single from senior
Jess Pomerleau to take a 3-0 edge.
Husson followed up two runs in the second with another run in the third as senior
Julia Gregoire doubled to right center for an RBI and a 4-0 advantage.
Following a scoreless fourth inning, Husson struck for three runs in the fifth inning to run it's lead to 7-0. The Eagles scored their first run on a sacrifice flyout from junior
Kiara McLeod and the final two runs on an RBI single from senior
Olivia McCarty and an RBI ground out by junior
Bulla McCabe.
Sophomore
Danielle Masterson dominated on in the circle for the Eagles throwing seven scoreless innings allowing just four hits and striking out six batters.
Pomerleau paced the Eagles with three hits in the opening game, while Dore tallied two hits. Husson finished with an 11-4 hit advantage
In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Husson struck for two runs in the second inning, the first on a sacrifice flyout by junior
Tatyanna Biamby and the second on an RBI ground by McLeod.
The Eagles added another run in the third inning on a solo homerun from Dore to take a 3-0 led before scoring three runs in the fifth inning to open up a 6-0 lead.
Freshman
Camryn King drove in the first run on a sacrifice flyout to right field before the second run scored on a wild pitch and junior
Tori Exel plated the final run on an RBI groundout.
Thomas managed to get into the run column with its lone run of the day in the bottom of the seventh inning, but freshman
Ana Lang continued to dominate improving to 15-3 with a complete game performance, allowing three hits and striking out 11 batters.
Next up for the Eagles is a mid-week in-state showdown on the road against Bowdoin College on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
