Softball runs win streak to 13 after doubleheader sweep of Lesley

BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University softball team moved to 4-0 in North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday evening, as the team swept a doubleheader with Lesley University, winning game one 15-0 in five innings, before taking game two 9-6.

GAME 1:
Husson (18-4, 4-0 NAC) put Saturday's first contest to bed right from the jump, as an 11-run opening inning put the Eagles in firm control. Husson posted its 11 first-inning runs on seven hits and the inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from junior Tori Exel, while graduate student Katie Raymond added two hits in the inning and two RBIs.

The Eagles posted three more runs in the bottom of the second inning, as Raymond added her third hit of the contest and her third RBI, while sophomore Morgan Tainter ripped a single to left field that plated two more runs.

Husson posted a final run on the scoreboard in game one during the home-half of the third inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly from senior Olivia McCarty.

The tandem of sophomore Danielle Masterson and freshman Jazmin Johnson stood tall in the circle for the Eagles, as they combined for a no-hitter in five innings of work. Masterson allowed no base runners in her two innings of work, while Johnson earned her second win of the season, pitching three innings and allowing just two walks.

Raymond led the Husson batters in game one, posting three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Exel also drove in three runs. A patient approach at the plate was displayed by the Eagles, as the team drew 10 walks in game one.

GAME 2:
The finale of Saturday's conference clash started the same that game one did, as a three-run first inning from Husson immediately gave it a cushion. Two-straight RBI-doubles from senior Kenzie Dore and Exel gave the Eagles their first two runs of the contest, while Exel later scored herself on an error from the Lesley (3-20, 0-6 NAC) infield.

Husson tacked on another run to its lead in the third inning as an RBI-single from sophomore Emily Dunbar scored freshman Camryn King and gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead after three innings of play. The Lynx showed some fight the following inning, as a three-run frame got them within one run of Husson and turned the momentum.

The Eagles used the long-ball to turn the tide back their way in the home-half of the fourth, as a solo home run from sophomore Tayler Watterson that clipped the left field foul pole and a two-run round-tripper from classmate Lydia Rice instantly gave Husson its four-run lead back.

After Lesley cut another run off the Husson lead in the fifth inning, a bases loaded walk from Rice scored sophomore Jordan Lambert and gave the Eagles an 8-4 edge after five innings.

The Lynx utilized a two-run double in the top of the sixth to cut the Husson lead in half, but the Eagles added an insurance run in the home-half of the inning on an RBI-single from Tainter to make the score 9-6 and put Lesley away.

Freshman Ana Lang continued her monster debut campaign as a member of the green and gold, as the Searsport native secured her ninth win of the year in the circle. Lang hurled four innings, allowing just two hits and two walks, while shutting out the Lynx and striking out nine batters.

Watterson posted three hits to lead the Husson batters, while also adding a run scored and an RBI on her first career home run. Rice, Dore and junior Tatyanna Biamby each posted two-hit outings of their own, while Rice contributed three RBIs.

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow for another NAC doubleheader with Eastern Nazarene College set to make the trip to O'Keefe Field. First-pitch for game one of this conference battle is set for 1 p.m.
