DAVENPORT, Florida – The Husson University baseball team came up short at the hands of Immaculata University, 10-5, on Thursday night.
Husson (2-3) trailed Immaculata (6-4) throughout the evening-game under the lights of Davenport, Florida, after giving up two runs in the opening inning and one in the second. The Eagles then tallied a mark on the scoreboard in the third inning, on a walk from junior Tanner Evans, bringing sophomore Keegan Cyr home for the score.
The Mighty Macs added onto their lead in the third and fourth inning, scoring a run in each, before senior Jackson Curtis knocked his brother, sophomore Hunter Curtis, home on a sacrifice fly to right field.
After an Immaculata home-run in the bottom of the fifth inning, Husson's junior Ryne Rametta came back in the sixth and brought in Evans for another run, grounding-out to first base. An inning later the Eagles closed the margin to two runs, after a Jackson Curtis RBI double escorted sophomore Cam Rendell for a score, followed up by a single to left from freshman Henry Lausier, bringing Curtis back home.
With the score at 7-5 heading into the eighth inning, in favor of Immaculata, the Mighty Macs poured-in three more runs to close-out the inning and the game.
Curtis led the Eagles offensively, going 1-3, with a walk, and tallying two RBIs and a run. Evans followed with a 1-3 day that included a triple, two walks and a RBI.
Senior Alex Smith started on the mound for Husson, lasting 3.2 innings, on nine hits, five runs (four earned), and two strikeouts. Sophomore Ben Phillips came into relief for just over an inning, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit, before senior Ryan Penney went for 2.1 innings, giving up three earned-runs on three hits, each of them also striking-out two Might Mac batters. Freshman Ryan Garner concluded the game for Husson, giving up one hit.
The Eagles play University of Mount Union next, for their final game in the Sunshine State and at the RussMatt Invitational, on Friday night at 5:45 p.m.
