DANVILLE, Va. - - The Husson University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to Averett University, 11-9, on Thursday afternoon inside Campbell Stadium.
The Eagles flew out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first period. Kolton Gillilian,
Danny Carter, and
Jacob Sargent all scored within a four minute span. Husson's lead would, unfortunately, evaporate.
Much like the visitors, Averett scored three consecutive goals. The scoring streak started in the first period and continued in the second frame.
Sean Lyne provided the Eagles a one-goal advantage at half time with two goals in the final 10 minutes of the second period. Averett split up Lyne's goals with a tally of their own. At the end of two periods, Husson held a 5-4 lead. It was the final lead of the game for the squad from Bangor.
Averett opened the second half with five goals. Trailing by a goal quickly turned in leading by four tallies. Gillilian, Matt Boyton, Carter, and Sargent did not give up and sounded the goal horn four-consecutive times for the Eagles. At the 6:39 mark of the fourth period, the non-conference spring trip contest was tied at nine goals apiece.
The final five minutes were controlled by Averett. The hosts scored two goals and kept Husson off the scoreboard. The 11-9 loss dropped the Eagles to 1-3 on the 2024 season.
Kolton Gillilian,
Danny Carter,
Sean Lyne, and
Jacob Sargent each finished the game with two goals. Seven different Eagles garnered assists.
Odin Burk posted nine saves in the loss.
Husson returns to the field tomorrow, Friday, March 8. The non-conference contest at Brevard College is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
