LYNCHBURG, Virginia – The Husson University men's lacrosse team captured its first win of the 2024 season on Wednesday evening, defeating Randolph College 18-12.
Following a Randolph (2-2) goal just a minute into the first quarter, Husson (1-2) trailed for a total of 23 seconds before junior Nathan Vibber tied the score. The team then took a lead of its own via a score from sophomore Aidan Byers with 11:59 left in the first.
From there, the Eagles took flight and never looked back, holding their lead through the duration of the contest. Husson poured-in eight goals in the first quarter, gaining a 8-3 lead at the end of the period. Senior Danny Carter scored three times in the opening quarter, followed by sophomore Kolton Gillian with two of his own.
Sophomore Jacob Sargent kept the momentum in full-throttle for the team, reining in 2 goals in each of the second and third quarters, also assisting Sean Lyne for one of his two third quarter scores.
The Eagles held a 17–8 lead when senior Dean Sinkler scored the team's final goal of the game with 9:57 left in the final quarter, on an assist from senior Matt Boynton.
Sophomore Cohen Trnka snatched 10 saves for Husson, guarding the net for the entire sixty minutes.
Sargent and Carter both led the Eagles with a mirrored statline of four goals and two assists. Vibber added three goals and two assists, followed by Lyne with two goals and assists.
Husson plays its final game in the Old Dominion state against Averett University, on Thursday at 1.pm.
