Akira Warren Sends Baseball Home Victorious with Walk-Off RBI Single in 12th Inning

DAVENPORT, Fla. - - The Husson University baseball team and Akira Warren were victorious on Opening Day by defeating the Gordon College Fighting Scots in 12 innings, 6-5.

The Curtis brothers from Ellsworth, Maine and Warren propelled the Eagles to a walk-off victory on day one of the 2024 season.

In the top of the first inning, the Gordon College Fighting Scots scored the first run of the afternoon. Jonathan McIntyre scored after Alex Razzaboni singled through the right side. The 'visitors' would add to their lead in the top of the second.

With the bases loaded and two outs, CJ Demers would launch a grand slam over the left field fence. Even though Husson was looking at a 5-0 deficit after two innings, the five runs were all the Scots would score.

Hunter and Jackson Curtis combined to score the first run of the 2024 season for the Eagles. Hunter led off the third inning with a double to deep center. The sophomore outfielder advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jackson followed the wild pitch with a single to third base. After three complete innings, Husson trailed 5-1.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Kevin Connolly lined a two-run double down the right field line. Akira Warren and Cam Rendell each touched home on the two-base knock. With two runners still on the bases, Hunter Curtis stepped up and delivered a two-run single. After eight innings, the game was tied, 5-5.

The non-conference season opener would stay scoreless as the game headed to extra innings.

Cam Rendell ripped a double with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning. With a pinch runner on second base, Akira Warren did not miss his opportunity and lined a walk-off single for the Eagles. Opening Day was complete with a victory in extra innings.

Notes:
Connor Abood received the nod for Opening Day. The junior right hander went 3.0 innings, allowed five earned runs, and struck out three. Alex Smith went the next five innings and surrendered only three total hits to the Scots. Tanner Audyatis bridged the gap to Ryan Robb (1-0). The senior hurler went the final 2.2 innings, did not allow a hit or walk, and earned his first win of the season.

Hunter Curtis and Kevin Connolly each finished the game with two RBI. Jackson Curtis tallied two hits and one RBI, while Akira Warren recorded the game winning RBI.
