WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Husson University women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Hartford, 17-6, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Al-Marzook Field.
The Hawks opened the game with four unanswered goals before sophomore
Madison Lower put Husson (0-4) on the board with a free-position goal at the 6:27 mark of the first period. Goals by senior Lenaijah Ferguson and sophomore Kelly Hoxie gave the University of Hartford (1-5) a 6-1 lead going into the second stanza.
Sophomore
Averi Baker scored the first goal of the second quarter with an unassisted women-up goal with 7:26 remaining in the first half, but the Hawks countered with goals from sophomore Sara Costa and sophomore Courtney Ingham in a matter of two minutes to push their lead to six. Senior
Sophia Gomez hit pay dirt at the 1:54 mark of the second before freshman Talei Rickertson helped the host take a 8-3 lead into the intermission 27 seconds later.
University of Hartland tallied five of the six goals in the third period to take a 14-4 lead into the fourth frame and three of the five in the fourth to secure the 17-6 victory. Husson received two goals from Baker and one for sophomore
Gracie Gardner in the second half of the game.
Sophomore
Emma Begin made 10 saves in the net for Eagles while graduate student Hanna Ramsey recorded six for the Hawks in the victory.
Baker scored three goals with a ground ball and a caused turnover. Lower and Gardner each had a goal. Gomez added a goal and an assist with a draw control. Junior
Jordyn Lengle was credit with an assist while senior
Devyn Veits had a team-high five draw controls.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 23 when they travel to Salem, Massachusetts for a non-conference contest with Salem State University. The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
