LA PLUME, Pa. - Husson University fought past Keystone College, 11-6, in an evenly matched non-conference men's lacrosse contest at the Keystone Turf Field on Sunday morning.
After five minutes of scoreless play, freshman
Jacob Sargent scored a man-up goal off a nice feed by sophomore Kolton Gillilian to provide the Eagles with a 1-0 lead at the 8:11 mark. Senior Tyler McManus, freshman Cam Wallace and freshman Abe Wallace all hit pay dirt for the Giants to cap the first frame with a two goal advantage for Keystone at 3-1.
Gillilian kicked off the second stanza scoring at the 13:41 mark with his first goal of the game, but McManus pushed the Keystone's (2-3) lead back two when he scored one minute and five seconds later. Back-to-back goals from Gillilian and senior
Matt Boynton knotted the game at 4-4 with 9:29 left before the break. A. Wallace put the Giants back on top at the 7:47 mark of the second before Gillilian tallied a man-down goal to tie the game at 5-5 heading into the intermission.
The Eagles' offense started to click to open the second half, when Senior
Dean Sinkler started a 5-0 scoring run that included goals from freshman
Owen Giorgio, Sargent, Boynton and Sinkler who ended the run with his second of the game with 23 seconds left in the third.
A. Wallace scored the Giants final goal at the third quarter buzzer before Boynton found the back of the net for the third time at the 12:57 mark of the fourth to close out the game scoring.
Husson (3-3) held the lead in shots (39-30) and shots on goal (23-21) while Keystone posted advantages in ground balls (50-44) and caused turnovers (16-15). Each team won 10 faceoffs on the morning.
Sophomore starter
Odin Burk turned away 15 shots and picked up six ground balls to earn the victory while his counterpart, Keystone's sophomore Edwin Himmel-Maines registered 12 saves in a losing effort.
Boynton scored three goals on seven shots with two assists and three ground balls. Gillilan netted three goals on 13 shots with two assists and a pair of ground balls. Sargent tallied two goals and a ground ball. Sinkler chipped in with two goals, five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Giorgio picked up a game-high six ground balls and a career and game-high seven caused turnovers with a goal and two assists.
Husson concludes their seven game road trip on Saturday, March 16th with a non-conference match-up at Salem State University. Opening faceoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
