Donovan breaks single-game rebound record in road victory over UMPI

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Husson University women's basketball graduate student Bailey Donovan broke a 45-year-old single-game rebound record in its 74-58 road victory over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Tuesday.

Husson (14-9, 9-3 NAC) jumped on UMPI (10-10, 5-6 NAC) from the start, dropping 13 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second to control a 34-21 advantage at the halftime break.

The Eagles added 40 second-half points to come way with the 74-58 decision as Donovan poured in a game-high 32 on 11-19 from the floor and 10-11 from the free throw line.

Junior's Hannah Richards and Lauren Cook added eight and nine points, respectively, while Richards added four boards and a team-high four assists.

The Eagles finished the night with 22 assists, as Richards, senior Makaelyn Porter and junior Sofia Torres-Reyes all finished with four assists apiece.

Husson concluded the matchup with an impressive 48-35 advantage on the glass, 26 of which came at the hands of Donovan who passed Kris Hughes and herself for the most rebounds in a single game. Hughes set the initial mark of 25 back in 1978 before Donovan equaled her total just last season. The career leader in rebounds for the Eagles, now holds the single season and single-game records in program history.

Additionally, the Eagles finished the night with 19 points off turnovers and 21 second-chance points, pulling down 17 offensive rebounds as three of Richards four boards came on the offensive end of the court.

Next up for the Eagles is a Friday and Saturday regular-season finale at home against Lesley University beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
