PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Husson University women's swimming & diving team turned in an outstanding session on Saturday, breaking four school records and recording six top-8 finishes to surge from a tie for fourth place to third with one day remaining at the 2024 Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championship at Rutgers University Aquatic Center.
Saturday's evening session started with the 200-yard medley relay finals, where the Husson team of junior
Rachel Hand, sophomore
Erin Madden, senior
Kayla Payson and freshman
Mia Winslow swam a time of 2:00.15, taking sixth place in the event while seeing Hand leadoff the relay with a 28.40 split, breaking the program's four-year old 50-yard backstroke record of 28.47.
Sophomore
Riley Mahoney became the first diver in school history to preform a 11-dive set off the three-meter board on Saturday, finishing the event in second place with a score of 332.90.
Freshman
Mackenzie Gray came in eighth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:45.23.
Taking sixth was Payson in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.51 after setting a new program record in the event in the morning prelims with a 1:01.26. Meanwhile graduate student
Hannah Soutter finished 12th after swimming a 1:10.78 and junior
Kat Christensen placed 18th with a 1:34.59.
Winslow, sophomore
Maggie Poulin and freshman
Isabella Cost placed 12th, 13th and 18th in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:18.52, 2:19.05 and 2:26.23.
Madden (1:17.37) and junior
Grace Rocheleau (1:19.42) finished 1-2 in the B final of the 100-yard breaststroke while freshman
Aura Morin placed 18th with a 1:27.01.
In another amazing performance, Hand was the METS runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.13 after breaking the Husson record in the morning prelims with a time of 1:00.02. Winslow and Rocheleau earned a 15th and 18th place finishes after swimming times of 1:10.36 and 1:09.25.
Husson's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Madden, Cost, Poulin and Soutter finished in eighth place with a time of 9:18.56.
In total, the Eagles have accumulated 498 points through two days, good for third place out of 11 schools with one day remaining. They are currently within striking distance of second-place Maine Maritime Academy, as the Mariners have 509.5 points.
Sunday's prelims begin at 10 a.m., with the finals set for 5:30 p.m.
