Women’s basketball advances to NAC East Championship with victory over UMPI

CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team has set-up a rematch against Maine Maritime Academy after a 69-54 over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Friday evening on the campus of Maine Maritime.

Husson (17-9) and UMPI (11-12) battled closely to begin Friday's postseason matchup, but it was the Owls who controlled most of the opening quarter, as they only trailed for 34 seconds in the opening frame, when junior Jordyn Lengle connected on a layup to give the Eagles a 15-14 edge after one period of play.

Husson started to strengthen its edge over UMPI throughout the second quarter, leading by as much as nine during the frame, taking a 36-27 lead into halftime. The Eagles continued their momentum in the final 20 minutes of action, as they held as much as a 21-point edge over the Owls, and cruised to the divisional final.

Junior Hannah Richards led a balanced scoring charge for Husson, tallying 11 points and tying a career-high with nine rebounds. Graduate Student Bailey Donovan also finished in double-digits, finishing with a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double, in addition to posting five assists and three blocks.

Husson is back in action tomorrow as it looks to avenge two regular season losses to Maine Maritime Academy and get back on top of the NAC East Division. Tip-off for the division championship is set for 2 p.m.
