CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team fell short in an overtime thriller 67-61 to Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon in the North Atlantic Conference East Division Finals.
Husson (17-10) and rivals MMA (22-4) went back and forth throughout the entire game, which was on par for how the two teams battled against each other in their first two tightly contested matchups from the regular season.
The game saw 14 tied scores and 13 lead changes, with both teams struggling from the field and the 3-point line. Husson shot 36% from the field and just 20% from beyond the arc, while MMA shot a 38.7% clip from the field and 23% from 3-point land.
Both squads evened out from inside the paint with 32 points, but it was MMA with the advantage in transition with 19 fast break points to Husson's two. The Mariners also found a nice contribution from the bench, finishing the game with 18 more bench points than the Eagles.
The Eagles were led by graduate student Bailey Donovan, who finished her Husson career with 24 points and 25 rebounds. Senior guard Makaelyn Porter and junior guard Hannah Richards were also vital for the Eagles in the final game of the season. Porter finished with 10 points, on 5-9 shooting, and five steals, while Richards ended the game with 15 points.
Husson ends their 2023-2024 season at the hands of MMA in the NAC East Division Final for the second consecutive year.
