Two women's swimming & diving records broken on day one of the 2024 METS Championship

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Husson University women's swimming & diving team broke two school records and currently tied for fourth-place after the opening day of the 2024 Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championship at Rutgers University Aquatic Center.

Felician University leads the women's competition after day one with 430 points, followed by Maine Maritime Academy (236.5), Mount Saint Mary College (193), Hunter College and the Eagles are tied for fourth with 183 points to round out the top-5. 

Husson's "A" team consisting of senior Kayla Payson, freshman Mackenzie Gray, freshman Mia Winslow and junior Rachel Hand placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.57 while the "B" relay team of graduate student Hannah Soutter, junior Grace Rocheleau, junior Kat Christensen and freshman Aura Morin swam of a time of 2:05.29 during the morning prelims. 

Hand broke Husson's 200-yard individual medley program record during the prelims in the morning before bettering her time in the finals with a 2:14.21 to finish second in the finals. Junior Erin Madden finished second in the B finals with a time of 2:28.96.

Payson finished sixth in the A finals of the 500-yard freestyle swimming a 5:37.94 while sophomore Maggie Poulin won the C finals with a 6:08.48 to finish 17th overall in the event and freshman Isabella Cost placed 21st overall with a 6:32.89.

Gray placed eighth in the C finals of the 50-yard freestyle with a 28.52.

The Eagles' 400-yard medley "A" relay team of Hand, Madden, Payson and Winslow earned a third-place finish in the A finals with a 4:21.54. Hand also notched a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke to lead off the event with a time of 1:00.27.

The METS Championship will continue tomorrow with 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. sessions.
