BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team finished off a weekend-sweep of Lesley University with an 88-29 win over the Lynx on Saturday afternoon inside Newman Gymnasium.
It was all Husson (16-9, 11-3 NAC) from the jump, as the Eagles outscored Lesley (1-23, 0-14 NAC) 15-4 in the first quarter and 21-4 in the second quarter to carry a commanding 36-8 lead into the locker room.
Husson continued its onslaught in the second half as it limited the Lynx to just four points in the third quarter and managed to score 27 of its own, in addition to defeating Lesley in the final frame despite the Lynx offense catching fire and tallying 17 points, as the Eagles put in 25 fourth-quarter points.
Strong interior offense was the theme of the day for Husson, as graduate student Bailey Donovan and junior Jordyn Lengle each posted 13-point outings to pace the Eagles. Both players added six rebounds, while Donovan contributed a career-high six steals, in addition to both Lengle and Donovan combining to shoot an efficient 12-15 from the floor.
Senior Carly Price continued her hot-shooting weekend as she netted 12 points on 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Juniors Sofia Torres-Reyes and Hannah Richards each tallied five assists for a Husson team that posted 34 assists on its 39 made field goals.
The Eagles shot nearly 53% from the floor as a team for the game, including just over a 38% clip from three-point range. Husson dominated the rebounding margin, holding a 47-17 edge over Lesley for the game, in addition to forcing the Lynx into 24 turnovers, which led to 34 Eagle points.
Husson will now turn its attention to the North Atlantic Conference East Division Playoffs, which begin on Friday with the Eagles' opponent, time and location to be determined by the conference this coming week.
