Henke posts career-high to lead men’s basketball to win over Norwich in Florida Sunshine Shootout

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Husson University men's basketball team returned to the floor for the first time since Christmas and got a career-high 21 points from junior Ty Henke and cruised to an 83-68 win over Norwich University on the opening day of the Florida Sunshine Shootout at Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday evening.

Norwich (7-2) was able to jump out to a quick 7-2 lead over Husson (7-5) in the opening four minutes of play, before the Eagles were able to turn an 11-6 deficit into a 12-11 lead at the 12:10 mark of the opening half.

That quick 6-0 scoring outburst for Husson triggered a three-minute stretch that saw five total lead changes before Henke was able to connect on a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 22-20 edge with nine minutes remaining.

Husson was able to keep control of the lead for the remainder of the opening frame and took a 38-35 lead into the locker room after Kohlby Murray connected on a layup for the Cadets as time expired.

Senior Riles Neff led the way for the Eagles in the half with 11 points on an efficient 5-6 shooting, while also grabbing four rebounds and handing out three assists.

Husson shot nearly 46% from the floor as a team in the opening 20 minutes and held Norwich to just 1-10 shooting from beyond the arc, while holding a slight 23-18 edge on the glass.

Following a basket from the Cadets to open the second half of play, the Eagles outscored Norwich 29-7 over the next nine minutes of action to all-but break open the game.

The outside shooting picked up for Husson during the run, as it connected on six made three-pointers during the stretch, with three of them coming from Henke, after making just two during the entire first half.

The Eagles would match their largest lead of 23 points three additional times over the final 10-plus minutes of the contest to cruise to the victory, in addition to handing the Cadets just their second defeat of the year.

Henke's 14-second half points allowed him to post a team-high 21 on the night, while shooting 8-10 from the floor and 4-6 from beyond the arc.

Neff produced another good all-around performance for Husson, who captured its fifth-consecutive victory, as he totaled 17 points on 8-11 shooting, in addition to 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Sophomore Tope Alao also finished in double-figures with 13 points, while graduate student Jeremy Moronta added eight points and 10 rebounds.

As a unit, the Eagles shot just shy of 48% from the floor as a team, including 30.8% from three-point land.

Husson won the rebounding battle 45-35 and limited Norwich to 2-18 shooting from three-point range, in addition to forcing the Cadets into 11 turnovers.

The Eagles will look to go 2-0 in the Florida Sunshine Shootout when they conclude their trip with a battle against UMass Boston tomorrow evening at 8 p.m.
