BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's basketball team dominated Friday night's North Atlantic Conference matchup from tip off, winning 89-53 over the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Husson (2-7, 2-1 NAC) capitalized on a 27-point opening quarter to control a 27-13 advantage over UMPI (1-6, 0-1 NAC) and never looked back.
Led by senior
Hannah Richards who tallied her second 20-point effort on the season, finishing with 20 points in just 16 minutes on 6-10 shooting and 5-6 from behind the 3-point stripe.
The Eagles led 48-25 at the half and started the second half similar to the first, scoring 24 points in the third quarter to put Husson up by 30 points heading into the final quarter.
14 Husson players got in the scoring column on the way to Husson scoring a season-high 89 points and grabbing a near program record 62 rebounds.
Freshman
Alyssa Harris tallied 14 points, five boards and a game-high five assists, while sophomore
Callaway LePage posted 10 points and five rebounds.
Senior's
Jordyn Lengle and
Sophia McVicar each added eight points, while Lengle recorded a team-high nine rebounds.
Freshman
Saige Evans recorded eight rebounds, five on the offensive end and the Eagles controlled a 62-42 advantage on the glass and scored 40 points in the paint.
Additionally, Husson finished with 29 second-chance points and an impressive 49 points off the bench to the Owls three.
The Eagles will look to make it two straight on Saturday when they host the University of Maine at Fort Kent with tip off scheduled for 1 p.m.
