BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting No. 5/No. 5 Bowdoin College team on Tuesday night, as Husson fell 80-52 to the Polar Bears at Morrell Gymnasium.
Husson (1-7) did its best to hang with the unbeaten Polar Bears (7-0) early on, playing to a 15-9 game just over four minutes in, but a 15-5 run from Bowdoin to close the opening quarter gave it a large edge going into the second period.
The Eagles played a hard-fought second quarter, but ultimately got outscored 17-14 and went into the halftime break down 47-28.
Senior Lauren Cook paced Husson in the opening 20 minutes, tallying eight points, including two made three-pointers.
The Polar Bears continued to roll in the second half, opening up a 30-point edge late in the third period and outscored the Eagles 20-11 in the third quarter, before both teams posted 13 points in the fourth and final quarter to bring the game to its final score of 80-52.
Cook was the lone Eagle to finish in double-digits, as she tallied 11, while graduate student Makaelyn Porter added eight points off the bench.
As a team, Husson shot just 30.6% from the floor, including just shy of 23% from beyond the arc, while connecting on 9-15 foul shots.
The Eagles will look to bounce back on Friday when they host the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 5:30 p.m. in North Atlantic Conference play.
