BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team exploded for eight goals, en route to an 8-0 win over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field in a North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal matchup.
It didn't take long for Husson (11-7-1) to find the back of the net, as senior Kate Harriman blasted a left-footed shot into the left corner of the goal on a pass from sophomore Rylee Speed less than 30 seconds into the contest to put the Eagles up 1-0.
Harriman doubled the lead and her goal total in the 16th minute, as she took a long pass from junior Madison Higgins, which put her in a one-on-one position with goalkeeper, and managed to side-step the goalie and send the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Eagles.
Junior Caley Nault got into the scoring action about 15 minutes later, as a corner kick from senior Sophia Mullins was sent back towards the right side by junior Kendra Donahue, where Nault was there to tap the ball over the goalline to make it 3-0 Husson.
Junior Addi Laslie found the fourth goal of the half for the Eagles as she managed to head home a cross from senior Adtison Clark to close out the scoring in the opening half for Husson.
Harriman secured her hat trick in the second half, as she scored from the penalty spot after a hand ball was called on Farmington (7-8-2).
A trio of Eagles found goals in the final 10 minutes of play, as senior Sami Orest followed up her own shot to find her first goal of the year, while Higgins volleyed home a deflection to make it 7-0 and junior Laura Martel sent one in off the crossbar in the 89th minute to send the Eagles home with an 8-0 win.
Husson outshot the Beavers 34-3 for the game, including 20-1 in shots on goal, in addition to a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Junior Madison Weigler earned the shutout in the net for the Eagles and made one save on one shot from the Beavers.
