BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team advanced to the North Atlantic Conference championship game with a victory in the East Division title game over Lesley University by a score of 3-0 at Boucher Field on Sunday afternoon.
Husson (12-7-1) drew first blood in Sunday's contest, as senior Mackenzie Lambert won a battle for the ball on the left side and was able to play a ball inside the 18-yard box to junior Devon St. Louis, who then one-timed a pass back to graduate student Lindsey Russell and she placed a long, high shot into the top-right corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute.
Senior Kate Harriman continued her excellent weekend of soccer for Husson, as she doubled the lead in the 20th minute after Lambert played a pass back to a wide-open Harriman and the Glenburn native bounced a shot off the left post and into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Eagles.
After the game went into halftime at 2-0 in favor of Husson, Harriman posted her fifth goal of the conference tournament, when she was placed one-on-one with the Lesley (11-7-2) goalie by senior Megan Buddemeyer and didn't waste the opportunity, making it 3-0 Eagles in the 51st minute.
The Husson defense shut down the attack for the Lynx, limiting them to just one quality chance on goal to come away with its second division championship in three seasons.
The Eagles held a 12-9 shot advantage in the contest, while both teams had five shots on goal and neither team attempted a corner kick.
Senior Hannah Kenney picked up the shutout in net for Husson and turned away all five shots on goal that Lesley had.
The Eagles will battle SUNY Delhi in the NAC championship game on Saturday at Boucher Field with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
