READING, Pa. — The Husson University field hockey team beat Virginia Wesleyan University 2-1 in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday to advance to the championship game against host Alvernia University on Sunday.
Husson (10-8) started out Saturday's semifinal matchup strong, putting up five shots in the opening 15 minutes and forcing the Marlins to make two first-quarter saves to keep the game scoreless.
Virginia Wesleyan (12-7) was held in check in the opening frame, not recording a shot attempt, while allowing three Eagle penalty corners.
However, Saturday's decision came down to a dominate second quarter from Husson who finished with seven shots, five on frame as sophomore
Faith Tillotson gave the Eagles a 1-0 advantage at the 22:31 mark and fellow sophomore
Tessa Capozzoli struck for the eventual game-winning goal at 26.49 from junior

The Marlins managed to put in a late goal as time was expiring to cut the deficit to 2-1, but time ran out as Husson limited VWU to just seven shot attempts and only two shots on goal, while recording 24 shots and 12 on cage.
Next up for the Eagles is a showdown for the ECAC championship at noon on Sunday against host Alvernia.
