READING, Pa. — The Husson University field hockey team battled host Alvernia University to a 1-0 loss in the championship game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday.
Alvernia (13-7) and Husson (10-9) fought back-and-forth throughout Sunday's championship finale, the Wolves put up three shots in the opening quarter and benefitted from two penalty corners to scoring the deciding goal at the 9:15 mark.
The Eagles battled tough in the second quarter, getting four shot attempts and putting three on cage that were turned away from Alvernia.
In the second half, the Wolves finished with a slight 8-6 shot advantage, putting two shots on cage to the Eagles three to hang on for the 1-0 decision.
Alvernia finished with a 12-11 edge on shots, but Husson held a 7-5 advantage in shots on cage. The Wolves finished the game with seven saves in net to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Maria Levesque stood tall in cage for Husson, allowing just the one goal and making three saves, while junior
Leah Pushard recorded a defensive save.
Junior
Maddie Perkins finished with three shot attempts and two shots on goal, while sophomore
Hope Bouchard recorded two shots, both landed on cage and fellow sophomore
Tessa Capozzoli added three shots.
