LEWISTON, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team fell in road action on Friday evening, dropping a non-conference contest to Bates College by a score of 77-54 at Alumni Gymnasium.
Husson (0-3) came out of the first quarter with a 17-12 lead and utilized its depth to gain an early advantage, as 13 players saw time in the opening quarter, with senior Hannah Richards leading the way with five points for the Eagles.
Bates (1-0) used a 10-2 run early on in the second quarter to gain possession of the lead and managed to take a 27-25 lead into the locker room at the half.
After Husson knotted the game at 27 with a basket to begin the second half, the Bobcats used another scoring run, this time 12-0, to build a double-digit advantage and took a 51-38 lead into the fourth and final quarter.
The Eagles did their best to try and cut into the Bates lead, but a 10-0 run by the Bobcats after their lead had been cut to 10 extended their edge to 20 points, leading to a decisive win in their season-opener.
Sophomore Callaway LePage paced Husson offensively, as she poured in a career-high 14 points off the bench, shooting 3-4 from the floor and 8-8 from the foul line.
The Eagles struggled to get going offensively, shooting just 28% from the floor and just 2-16 from three-point range for the game.
Husson is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Otterbein University in a non-conference game at Newman Gymnasium with tip-off scheduled for 12 p.m.
