BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team rolled to a 12-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Friday evening in a Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference semifinal game at the John W. Winkin Sports Complex.
Sophomore Tessa Capozzoli got the scoring started for Husson (8-8), as she scored off of a feed from junior Maddie Arsenault, while junior Ruby Kitchin doubled the lead for the Eagles before the end of the first quarter on a pass from senior Karlie Ramsdell.
Husson found the scoring column five times in the second quarter, as sophomore Faith Tillotson tallied the first three goals in the span of just over three minutes, with juniors Averi Baker and Maddie Perkins and sophomore Hope Bouchard setting Tilloson up, while Perkins scored off of a feed from junior Ella Louder and junior Kyla Havey closed the first-half scoring on a pass from freshman Madison Willey.
Arsenault opened the third quarter with a goal for the Eagles on a pass from Capozzoli, while Willey fed Havey for another goal and Willey found the scoring column on a pass from sophomore Elisa Picariello to put Husson up 10-0 after three quarters.
Kitchin and Picariello posted unassisted tallies in the final period to wrap up the 12-0 win for the Eagles.
Husson held a 50-4 advantage in shots for the game, including 28-1 in shots on goal, in addition to a 17-5 edge in penalty corners.
Sophomore Maria Levesque and freshman Maddie Stevens split time in the cage for the Eagles, as Levesque was not forced to make a save, while Stevens turned away the lone shot she faced from Farmington (0-15).
Husson will compete in the CMCFHC championship game on Sunday at 12 p.m. when it travels to Waterville to take on Thomas College.
