BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's soccer team battled the University of New England to a 1-1 draw at home Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
Husson (5-4-2) capitalized on a Nor'Easter's handball inside of the 18-yard box at the 6:47 mark in the opening half. Senior
Florian Gasser beat a diving UNE keeper low to the left for his second goal of the season and an early 1-0 advantage.
The Eagles controlled much of the opening half possession, racking up a 6-4 shot advantage, however UNE (4-5-3) benefitted from an Eagles deflection that landed at the feet of Corbin Schreindorfer that was put into the Husson net to even the match 1-1.
Both teams would play a scoreless second half, Husson racked up a 7-2 shot advantage and had opportunities to put in the game-winning goal, but UNE tallied four saves to keep the contest knotted at one each.
Junior
Carlos Etchevers and sophomore
Carsen Cyr led the Eagles with three shots each, one on goal with Etchevers nearly firing a free kick into the back of the UNE net late in the second half. Etchevers bent a free kick following a Nor'Easter's foul just outside of the 18-yard box that missed the top corner of the net by a couple of feet.
Sophomore
Samuel Bermudez got the start in net for Husson finishing with two saves.
The Eagles will now host Lesley University of Saturday and Sunday for two crucial North Atlantic Conference games beginning at 1 p.m. and noon respectively.
