Volleyball battles Thomas to senior day loss in first meeting since 2009

BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University volleyball team hosted Thomas College for the first meeting since the two teams faced off back in 2009 season, this time the Terriers managed to come away with a 3-1 decision.

Thomas (3-9, 2-1 NAC) looked to be in control of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference matchup winning the opening two sets 25-21 and 25-20 for an early 2-0 advantage.

However, Husson (3-10, 1-2 NAC) didn't go down without a fight, winning the third set 25-16 — backed by a .256 hitting percentage for the set.

The Eagles forced a fourth set that went down to the wire. Both teams traded points throughout the frame and remained tied at the 20-20 mark. The Terriers benefited from a 4-0 run to tie the match and take a 23-20 lead before picking up the 25-21 decision.

Sophomore Janna Preskorn caught fire over the final two frames for the Eagles on her way to a career-high 21 kills — finishing with a 21 kill, 15 dig double double.

Additionally, senior Cam Schweitzer put together a senior day performance to remember racking up a career-high 12 kills. Fellow senior Alexa Beal finished with seven kills, while freshman Kimberly Daniels also posted seven kills.

Senior Alyvia McIntyre dished out a season-high 45 assists and recorded 12 digs and senior Beatrice Tursi racked up a career-high 27 digs.

Prior to the match, Husson recognized its five seniors as Julia Leavitt, Beal, McIntyre, Schweitzer and Tursi honored prior to first serve.

Husson will now host the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a doubleheader on Saturday.
