SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Husson University field hockey team dropped a tightly-fought battle on the road against Western New England University on the road in non-conference action.
WNE (7-4) and Husson (5-5) played to a scoreless opening half before the Golden Bears got on the board first with a goal at the 37:24 mark and another in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter for a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles didn't go down without a fight, pulling within 2-1 on sophomore
Tessa Capozzoli's eighth goal of the season from junior
Maddie Perkins.
The Golden Bears increased their advantage back to two goals with a goal at the 51:37 mark and Husson cut the deficit back to one with just over a minute to play when Perkins recorded her eighth goal on the year.
However, that would be all the Eagles could put in the cage as WNE held on for the 3-2 decision.
WNE finished the matchup with a 20-6 shot advantage and a 12-4 shot on goal edge. Sophomore
Maria Levesque stood strong in goal recording nine saves.
Next up for the Eagles is an in-state showdown with rival Thomas College on the road Saturday at 1 p.m.
