BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team remained unblemished in North Atlantic Conference play on Friday evening, as it defeated the University of Maine at Farmington by a score of 10-2 at Boucher Field.
Farmington (3-5-2, 1-2-2 NAC) struck first in Friday's conference showdown, as Rita Benoit placed a long throw-in over the heads of two Husson (5-5, 4-0 NAC) defenders and onto the foot of Makenzie Rushlow, who tapped a shot past junior Madison Weigler to give the Beavers an early lead.
The Eagles responded in a big way, as three goals in the span of less than two minutes allowed them to jump in front, 3-1.
Senior Kate Harriman got the scoring outburst started by rifling a shot past the reach of the Farmington goalkeeper to even the game up at one.
Fellow senior Mackenzie Lambert gave Husson the lead when she blasted a pass from senior Natalie Aviolla into the top-left corner of the goal to make it a 2-1 contest.
Harriman struck again following a long change of field from senior Megan Buddemeyer, as she settled the ball to her foot and sent her second goal in as many minutes past the goalkeeper.
The Eagles carried their two-goal edge into and out of the halftime break, as freshman Hailey Tarbox would add to the lead, as she saw her shot from inside the 18-yard box bounce off the post and over the goal line in the 50th minute to give Husson a 4-1 edge.
Following a goal from Farmington in the 57th minute, the Eagles would post six additional goals to run away with the conference victory.
Harriman completed her third hat trick of the season in the 62nd minute, as she headed home a cross from junior Madison Higgins, while sophomore Olivia Charles put home her first goal as an Eagle in the 70th minute.
Aviolla struck twice in the span of five minutes for Husson, as she combined with Charles for her first goal, while she tallied an unassisted goal in the 78th minute.
Tarbox posted the penultimate goal for the Eagles in the 82nd minute, while junior Addi Laslie concluded the scoring in the 86th minute to bring the game to its final score of 10-2.
Husson held an astounding 33-5 edge in shots for the game, including a 20-3 advantage in shots on goal, in addition to a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.
Weigler picked up another win in net for the Eagles, as she made one save during the match.
Husson is back in action tomorrow when it heads to Castine for a showdown with the defending North Atlantic Conference Champions, Maine Maritime Academy, with kick-off set for 3:30 p.m.
