BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's soccer team dropped a nail-biting decision to the University of Maine at Farmington on Friday evening, 1-0, in North Atlantic Conference action at Boucher Field.
Husson (5-3-1, 2-2 NAC) looked to strike early in Friday's big conference showdown, as senior Florian Gasser had the Farmington (5-3-1, 4-1 NAC) goalkeeper fooled with his low shot, but the ball hit off the right post and kept the game scoreless less than a minute into the contest.
In what was an 18-to-18 game in the first half, Husson's defense didn't allow a shot on goal from the Beavers, while junior Carlos Etchevers and sophomore Beckett Parkin each saw quality chances get turned away by the goalkeeper, as the game entered halftime in a 0-0 stalemate.
Farmington started to generate more chances in the second half of play and would be rewarded in the 84th minute, as Mohamed Adow blasted a free kick off of a wall of Husson defenders, with the change of direction catching sophomore Garret Jordan out of position, allowing the ball into the back of the net for the first and only goal of the contest.
The Eagles were unable to rally in the final five-plus minutes and fell in a rematch of the 2023 NAC East Division championship game.
Husson outshot the Beavers 16-5 for the contest, but held only a 4-3 edge in shots on goal, in addition to a 3-2 margin in corner kicks.
Jordan stopped two of the three shots that were put on goal by Farmington in his 90 minutes of action.
The Eagles will look to rebound tomorrow when they travel to take on Maine Maritime Academy in a 1 p.m. NAC battle.
