BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team fell in a highly-contested game against Thomas College on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-3 on senior day at the Dr. John W. Winkin Complex.
Husson (7-8) found the opening goal in Sunday's competitive matchup, as junior Maddie Perkins rifled home a penalty stroke shot in the 14th minute to put the Eagles up 1-0 after one quarter.
Junior Maddie Arsenault doubled the lead for Husson less than three minutes into the second quarter, as she posted her 11th goal of the season on a pass from sophomore Hope Bouchard.
The Eagles looked to have added another goal onto their lead, but had a foul called against them, which kept the game at 2-0.
Thomas (10-6) got on the board in the 27th minute on a penalty stroke goal from Julia Reny and managed to tie the game up at the 28:33 mark, as Samantha Thebarge blasted a shot past the Husson defense off of a penalty corner from Maci Freeman.
Arsenault put the Eagles back in front to begin the second half, as she put home an unassisted tally in the 35th minute to make it 3-2 Husson.
Reny answered Arsenault's goal two minutes later to tie the game back up and Thebarge gave the Terriers their first lead of the contest at the 43:20 mark.
Thomas would hold off Husson in the final quarter, including turning away the Eagles on nine penalty corner chances in the fourth period to lock up the victory.
The Terriers outshot Husson 16-13 for the game, including 7-6 in shots on goal, while the Eagles held a 12-11 advantage over Thomas in penalty corners.
Sophomore Maria Levesque manned the cage for Husson and made three saves on seven shots from the Terriers.
