FARMINGTON, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team closed out its regular season schedule with a 4-2 North Atlantic Conference victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Husson (10-7-1, 8-1-1 NAC) found the first goal of the contest in the 15th minute, as senior Megan Buddemeyer sent sophomore Olivia Charles towards the left side flag on a throw-in in the attacking third for the Eagles. Charles cut the ball towards goal and dribbled across the six-yard box and blasted a shot past the Farmington (7-7-2, 4-4-2 NAC) goalie to give Husson a 1-0 lead.
Senior Sophia Mullins found the back of the net less than seven minutes later as she played a half-volley over the goal line on an assist from senior Natalie Aviolla to double the lead for the Eagles.
Aviolla put one in less than 90 seconds before halftime, as she headed in a cross from graduate student Lindsey Russell to give Husson a 3-0 lead at the half.
Charles found the scoring column for a second time in the 51st minute on an unassisted goal to close the scoring for the Eagles.
The Beavers tallied goals in the 63rd and 75th minutes, but the damage had already been done by Husson, as the game ended in a 4-2 win for the Eagles.
Husson held a 25-14 edge in shots for the game, including 12-5 in shots on goal, in addition to an 11-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Madison Weigler earned the win in net for the Eagles and made three saves on five shots on goal from Farmington.
Husson will now turn its attention to the NAC tournament, which begins on Saturday and will be hosted by the Eagles at Boucher Field, with Husson playing Farmington in the opening game. The game times will be announced on Monday for all of the tournament games.
