BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University concluded an unbeaten weekend on Sunday afternoon, as it defeated Keene State College 5-1 at Boucher Field on senior day in non-conference play.
Much like Saturday's victory, Husson (8-7-1) controlled much of the play, racking up 69% of the possession in the first half, but the Keene State (5-10-2) defense nearly held them scoreless in the opening frame.
Senior Natalie Aviolla broke the scoreless-tie in the 35th minute, as she received a cross from sophomore Olivia Charles on the right side of the 18-yard box and she managed to finesse a ball past the diving Keene State goalie and into the left corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
After taking its 1-0 lead into and out of the halftime break, Husson found paydirt just over a minute into the second half, as sophomore Rylee Speed played a low corner kick across the six-yard box where senior Mackenzie Lambert was able to get a body on the ball and send it into the back of the net to double the lead for the Eagles.
Speed found the scoring column in the 72nd minute, as she followed up a shot from Aviolla, which the Owls goalkeeper saved, and blasted the ball into the goal for her second goal of the year.
After Keene State got a penalty kick goal from Isabella Moran in the 82nd minute, senior Kate Harriman posted her 15th goal of the year in the 87th minute, as she took a great through-ball from Aviolla into a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie and Harriman was able to just slip the ball through the goalkeeper's hands to regain a three-goal lead for the Eagles.
Husson managed to tack on one final goal in the 88th minute, as a cross from Charles was sent into the goal by a Keene State defender to cap off the scoring at 5-1.
The Eagles doubled-up the Owls in shots for the game, holding a 22-11 edge, including 10-6 in shots on goal, in addition to a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Hannah Kenney got the start in net for Husson and saved five of the six shots on goal from Keene State.
Prior to the start of the game, the Eagles recognized their 10-person senior class of Kenney, Sami Orest, Harriman, Sophia Mullins, Katie Benson, Aviolla, Madi Griffin, Megan Buddemeyer, Adtison Clark and Caitlin Haley.
Husson is back in North Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday when it takes on Maine Maritime Academy at home at 7:30 p.m.
