PLYMOUTH, N.H. — The Husson University field hockey team returned to the field on Saturday falling to Plymouth State University 5-3 on the road in non-conference action.
Plymouth State (6-6) scored the game's first goal at the 3:36 mark of the first quarter, but Husson (6-7) answered at the 9:25 mark in the opening frame to even the match 1-1 when junior
Averi Baker found the back of the Panthers cage.
However, Plymouth State benefited from two late first quarter goals to take a 3-1 edge at the end of the opening quarter.
The Panthers added the eventual game-winning goal in the second quarter for a 4-1 halftime lead.
The Eagles came out looking to even the game in the second half, scoring two third-quarter goals, the first by sophomore
Hope Bouchard and the second from fellow sophomore
Tessa Capozzoli to cut into the Panther's advantage at 4-3.
Plymouth State added a late insurance goal in the fourth quarter to run its advantage to 5-3 and hang on for the win.
Husson outshot the Panthers in the game 20-18 with Plymouth State holding a slight 13-11 shot on goal advantage.
Sophomore
Maria Levesque finished with eight saves in cage, while Plymouth State was forced to also make eight saves.
Husson closes out the 2024 regular season on Saturday and Sunday when it hosts the University of Maine at Farmington at 5 p.m. on Saturday and Thomas College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
