BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team lost a midweek matchup to Bowdoin College on Wednesday evening by a score of 6-1 at Ryan Field in non-conference action.
Bowdoin struck twice in the first five-plus minutes of play in Wednesday's game, as Emily Ferguson and Mackay Bommer each tallied goals to give the Polar Bears a 2-0 lead early on.
Sophomore Tessa Capozzoli got Husson (6-6) on the board at the 7:17 mark, as she made a good spin-move on a Bowdoin defender and fired a shot past the goalkeeper to cut the lead in half.
Ferguson would put the Polar Bears back up by two just before the end of the first quarter, while Caroline Higgins extended the lead to 4-1 in the 23rd minute of play.
Bowdoin tallied a goal on a penalty corner as time expired at the end of the second period, as Olivia Cunningham joined the scoring column for the Polar Bears to make the lead 5-1 headed into halftime.
After a scoreless third period, Elizabeth Kent put the finishing touches on the scoring for Bowdoin in the 57th minute to send the game to its final score of 6-1.
The Polar Bears held a 26-3 edge in shots for the contest, including 20-3 in shots on goal and 14-1 in penalty corners.
Sophomore Maria Levesque did her best to keep the Eagles in the game, as she turned away 14 Bowdoin shots in the contest.
Husson is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Plymouth State for a 12 p.m. contest.
