BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team earned a crucial North Atlantic Conference victory on Sunday afternoon at Boucher Field, as it defeated Lesley University by a score of 1-0.
In a battle of two heavyweights in the NAC, Husson (6-7-1, 5-1-1 NAC) and Lesley (7-5-1, 5-2 NAC) were both unable to crack the opposing team's defense in the opening half of play, as shots by sophomore Olivia Charles and senior Kate Harriman for the Eagles and a chance for Abby Kalou of the Lynx were the only shots by either team in the first half.
Following a shot by Lesley early on in the second half, senior Mackenzie Lambert got Husson on the board, as she was able to get a body on a cross from sophomore Rylee Speed and put the ball just over the goal line to give the Eagles a 1-0 edge at the 47:45 mark.
While Husson was only able to generate two more shots for the contest, senior Hannah Kenney and the rest of the defense were able to keep the Lynx off the scoreboard to allow the Eagles to avenge a loss to Lesley yesterday afternoon, as the game ended 1-0 in favor of Husson.
Both teams generated five shots each for the entirety of the game, while it was the Lynx who held a 2-1 edge in shots on goal and the Eagles who maintained a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Kenney picked up her first shutout of the season in goal, in addition to the sixth of her career, as she turned away the two shots that came her way in the contest.
Husson is back in action on Saturday when it heads to Waterville to take on Thomas College in conference play at 3:30 p.m.
