BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team fell to Lesley University 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference action at Boucher Field on Saturday afternoon.
In a matchup of two of the top teams in the NAC, neither Lesley (7-4-1, 5-1 NAC) nor Husson (5-7-1, 4-1-1 NAC) could crack the opposing team's defense in the opening 45 minutes, as the game went into halftime tied up at zero.
The Eagles had the best chance of the first half to find the back of the net, as senior Kate Harriman played a cross inside the 18-yard box and found the head of junior Addi Laslie, but Laslie had her header turned away by the Lesley goalkeeper, in addition to senior Mackenzie Lambert, who had a follow-up chance in front of the goal, but the Lynx kept Husson off the scoreboard.
Lesley found paydirt in the 57th minute, as Abby Kalou took a pass from Chase Livesey on the right side of the box and blasted a shot past junior Madison Weigler and into the top-right corner to break the scoreless deadlock.
The Lynx would double their lead about 15 minutes later, as they were awarded a penalty kick chance after a foul was called on Husson inside the box and Zoe Curtaz tucked the ball into the bottom-left corner to extend the lead to 2-0 for Lesley with less than 20 minutes remaining.
Husson looked to mount a comeback, as junior Devon St. Louis rewarded sophomore Olivia Charles for a great through-ball, as St. Louis took a touch past the Lesley goalkeeper and sent the ball into the back of the open goal to bring the Eagles to within a goal with less than 10 minutes left.
The Eagles had a chance to tie the game up in the final minute, but senior Katie Benson put a shot just wide of the goal and the Lynx held on for the victory.
Husson held an 11-5 edge in shots for the game, including 5-2 in shots on goal, while Lesley maintained a 3-1 advantage over the Eagles in corner kicks.
The Eagles will look to avenge their first conference defeat of the year tomorrow when they once again battle the Lynx at Boucher Field at 2:30 p.m.
