BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team used a two-goal performance in the second half from senior Kate Harriman to pick up a 3-1 North Atlantic Conference victory over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Tuesday night at Boucher Field.
Husson (4-5, 3-0 NAC) found the scoreboard less than a minute into the contest, as sophomore Rylee Speed received a long ball from across the field and was able to take a touch past the UMPI (3-4-1, 1-4-1 NAC) goalkeeper and deliver a ball to senior Sophia Mullins, who tapped the ball over the goal line to put the Eagles up 1-0 early on.
The Owls were able to respond in the sixth minute of action as Madelynn Morrow was able to force a turnover from Husson in its defensive-third and managed to float a long shot over the head of junior goalie Madison Weigler and into the top-right corner to even the score at one.
After the game went into halftime with the score set at 1-1, Harriman took over. The Glenburn native received a pass from senior Natalie Aviolla just inside the right corner of the 18-yard box in the 49th minute and managed to blast the ball through the hands of the UMPI goalie and into the back of the net to regain the lead for the Eagles.
Harriman struck again less than four minutes later, as she curled a left-footed shot around the goalkeeper and snuck it into the bottom-left corner to extend the Husson lead to 2-1.
The Eagles were able to continue their domination of the possession battle to keep the Owls off the scoreboard and come away with the 3-1 win.
Husson outshot UMPI 38-2 for the game, including 16-1 in shots on goal, in addition to taking seven corner kicks compared to none for the Owls.
Weigler faced just one shot on goal in her 90 minutes in net, en route to her fourth victory of the year.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday when they host the University of Maine at Farmington at 6:30 p.m. on Boucher Field.
