WORCESTER, Mass.— The Husson University women's basketball team used a complete team effort to overcome a first-half deficit on the road against Worcester Polytechnic Institute in non-conference action on Saturday to secure a 50-39 victory.
WPI (7-6) and Husson (5-7) were both limited in the opening 10 minutes, combining for 11 points in the first quarter with the Goats coming way with a slight 6-5 edge.
The second quarter would also belong to WPI as they outscored the Eagles 11-6 heading into the half to carry a 17-11 advantage at the break.
However, the second half would be all Husson as they opened the third quarter with a 19-11 run to take the lead. The Eagles added 20 more points over the final 10 minutes, while limiting the Goats to 11 points to come away with the 50-29 decision.
Husson managed to outscore WPI 39-22 in the second half, while shooting over 60 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
Junior
Sophia McVicar finished with a game-high 13 points, adding four rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Fellow junior
Hannah Richards finished with 12 points and three assists, while graduate student
Bailey Donovan tallied nine points and eight rebounds.
Additionally, junior Sophia Torres-Reyes scored eight points as Husson shot over 80 percent from the charity stripe.
The Eagles return to action on Monday when they travel to Farmington for a 7:30 p.m. North Atlantic Conference matchup against the Beavers of the University of Maine at Farmington.
