BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team completed a weekend sweep of the Thomas College Terriers behind a commanding 63-34 win on Saturday evening inside Newman Gymnasium.
Husson (11-9, 7-3 NAC) opened Saturday evening's contest on a 13-0 spurt, holding Thomas (8-12, 5-5 NAC) scoreless for the opening three minutes of play and to just five points during a lopsided 27-5 first quarter. The Eagles continued their dominating display of basketball in the second quarter and would take a 40-10 advantage into the halftime break.
Senior Trinity Montigny led the Husson offensive charge in the opening half, tallying 12 points, while graduate student Bailey Donovan added nine points, five rebounds and three assists.
The Eagles were active defensively in the opening frame, forcing the Terriers into 17 turnovers, while holding a 21-17 edge on the glass.
Husson cruised to victory in the second half, despite being outscored by Thomas 24-23 in the final 20 minutes of action.
Montigny finished with 14 to lead all scorers, while Donovan rounded-out the double-figure scoring with 11 points, in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks.
The Eagles shot just under 33% from the floor as a team and recorded seven made three-pointers on their 16 attempts. Husson also concluded a stout defense effort by forcing Thomas into 30 turnovers for the game, which translated into 27 Eagle points.
Women's basketball is back in action on Tuesday when it concludes non-conference play with a visit from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Tip-off for this midweek contest is set for 6 p.m.
