BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's basketball team put together a balanced effort in its 69-40 non-conference victory over the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Tuesday.
Husson (12-9) led from the beginning on Wednesday's in-state matchup, scoring 19 points in the opening quarter to Fort Kent's (5-3) 11-point opening quarter.
The Eagles kept their offense rolling in the second quarter outscoring the Bengals 20-10 to take a 39-21 advantage into the halftime break.
In the second half, Husson came out in cruise control, outscoring UMFK 30-19 over the final 20 minutes to secure the 69-40 decision.
12 Eagles scored in the victory, with both junior's
Sofia Torres-Reyes and
Sophia McVicar scoring 11 points apiece for the team lead.
Graduate student
Bailey Donovan tallied another double double for the Eagles, finishing with 10 points and 19 boards, while adding three blocks and three steals. Donovan now sits seven blocks away from breaking the all-time program record.
Husson finished the night with an impressive 52-35 advantage on the glass with seven rebounds coming from senior
Trinity Montigny who also tallied eight points. Additionally, the Eagles dished out 20 assists for the game and racked up 18 steals.
Husson's 18 steals led to 29 points off turnovers and 34 points in the paint. The Eagles finished the night with just 12 turnovers as a team compared to the Bengals 25, while also recording 21 offensive rebounds and 21 second-chance points.
The Eagles will now turn their attention back to the North Atlantic Conference for its final four games of the second, hosting the University of Maine at Farmington on Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
