BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's basketball team battled regional powerhouse Bowdoin College to a 68-64 loss in non-conference action on Tuesday.
Bowdoin (11-1) jumped out to a 12-0 lead on the Eagles to begin Tuesday's showdown, but Husson (4-7) ended the quarter on an 8-2 run to pull within 17-8 of the Polar Bears.
The Eagles continued their run in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent from the floor and rolling off a 17-12 quarter to trial Bowdoin 29-25 at the halftime break.
The Polar Bears came out in the second half shooting over 43 percent from the floor to roll off 23 points to the Eagles 19 to increase their advantage to 52-44 heading into the deciding quarter.
Husson outscored Bowdoin 20-16 over the final 10 minutes of play, but the Polar Bears strong third quarter proved to be the difference in Tuesday's matchup.
Graduate student
Bailey Donovan finished with a 20-point, 11-rebound double double to lead the Eagles, while junior
Sophia McVicar tallied 12 points and two steals.
Junior
Lauren Cook finished with nine points, seven in the second half, while fellow junior
Jordyn Lengle finished with seven points, five boards and four assists.
Additionally, freshman
Callaway LePage finished with a career-high six points and four assists.
Next up for the Eagles is a Saturday matchup against Worcester Polytechnic Institute with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
