CANTON, N.Y. — The Husson University women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought, last-second decision to SUNY Canton 74-72 on the road Saturday in North Atlantic Conference action.
Husson (7-7, 4-2 NAC) led for the majority of Saturday's conference matchup, however four late free throws from the Roos tied the game with :07 seconds remaining and two more with :02 left in the contest gave Canton the 74-72 edge.
The Eagles started off hot from the floor, scoring 19 points in the first quarter to the Roos 13, but Canton rebounded in the second frame outscoring Husson 16-14 giving the Eagles a 33-29 lead at the break.
Husson came out in the second half in control, scoring a game-high 22 points in the third quarter to Canton's 19 to extend its advantage, but Saturday's outcome came down to a 26-point four quarter by Canton to come away with the decision.
Graduate student
Bailey Donovan finished with a team-high 17 points and 14 rebounds, while also dishing out five assists.
Junior
Sophia McVicar added 16 points, six rebounds and three assists, while fellow junior Sophia Torres-Reyes finished with a game-high six assists.
Husson finished the day shooting 41 percent from the floor and an impressive 83.3 percent from the free throw line, while limiting the Roos to under 27 percent from the 3-point arc.
Next up for the Eagles in a 7 p.m. matchup with Colby College on Wednesday at home.
